Long Description:
This is a full-time position in UC Davis Health System, Department of Medical Sciences, Public Affairs, located in Sacramento, working hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday -Friday. This classification is not represented by a union. This position is open until filled. Interviews may be held after November 14, 2007.
The Department of Health Sciences Public Affairs and Marketing is responsible for the development, implementation and management of strategic communications plans aimed at key constituencies, including news media; UC administration, faculty, staff and students; governmental/regulatory leaders; external physicians and business leaders; potential and existing donors; and health-care consumers. The Web communications group is responsible for creating, designing and delivering high quality and timely Web content (e.g., text, design and layout, photography, graphics and multimedia) that supports the health system’s marketing and communications goals among its key constituencies.
Responsibilities:
Under general direction of the manager for Web communications, this position serves as a project manager. Incumbent oversees the development of Web sites and serves as a link between health system (internal) clients and outside vendors, building client trust and satisfaction. Works with public affairs team members, Web server administrators, other health system departments and outside agencies to develop and produce content, strategies, capabilities and priorities to optimize the health system's Web presence and to maximize the effectiveness of Web communications in achieving institutional goals, objectives and strategic priorities.
Requirements:
Applicants must submit a minimum of three writing samples with application to demonstrate excellent written communication skills -- Web site addresses may also be included as a demonstration of previous work, but not substituted for printed writing samples. A bachelor's degree (or higher) in marketing, communications, journalism, English or related field is highly preferred. Strong writing skills and demonstrated writing, publishing and editing experience required. Experience, skill and talent in designing strategic communications with compelling, engaging messages for various audiences, including internal and external audiences such as news media; UC administration, faculty staff and students; governmental/regulatory leaders; business leaders, health-care consumers and potential and existing donors. Thorough understanding in the creative use of the World Wide Web as a communications tool, the needs of Web audiences and how audiences use the Web. Demonstrated skill in organizing information for the Web. Understanding of and experience with enterprise-wide content management systems. Strong analytical organizational project- and time-management skills. Demonstrated experience in managing complex, multiple and multi-step projects. Demonstrated ability to be flexible, innovative and complete tasks in the most effective manner using resources available. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within established guidelines and procedures. Must have exceptional interpersonal skills, diplomacy, tact and experience working effectively with a variety of people in order to accomplish tasks. Knowledge of commonly accepted authorities on style such as AP Stylebook and the Chicago Manual, and the ability to uphold UC Davis editorial style guides. Ability to implement and enforce Web content policy, ensuring that the health system's online presence is user-focused, professional, engaging, dynamic, current, and accurate. Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills. Excellent grammar, spelling and punctuation. Demonstrated experience and thorough knowledge of HTML and CSS. Excellent knowledge of Internet applications and advanced computer skills required. Familiarity with and understanding of SEO, Java Script, Flash, XML and database systems. Experience with both PC and Macintosh operating systems and applications especially communications, graphic and Web design software).
